Delete your Alap account

You can delete your account at any time. You do not need anyone's permission and you do not have to give a reason.

From inside the app

Open Alap and go to Settings → Delete account. This is the fastest route and it takes effect immediately.

If you cannot open the app

If you have uninstalled Alap, lost access to your phone number, or cannot sign in for any other reason, email us and we will process the deletion for you.

Email a deletion request

Please include the phone number you registered with. It is the only identifier your account has — we do not ask for your name or email when you sign up, so without the number we cannot find the account to delete.

We will reply to confirm, and we may ask you to verify that the number is yours before we act. That check exists to stop someone else deleting your account.

What is deleted

When an account is purged, the following are erased:

Your phone number
Your date of birth
Your device identifier
Your profile, including display name, prompt answers and every profile field
Your photographs — both the records and the stored image files
Your uploaded contact hashes, circle blocks and affiliation blocks
Your privacy settings, discovery filters, passes, replies and quota
Your waitlist position, meetup RSVPs, relationship-structure history, verifications and partner links
The text of messages you wrote — redacted in place

What is kept, and why

We will not tell you everything disappears, because it does not, and a policy that claims otherwise is not worth reading. Five things are retained deliberately:

What	Why
A one-way cryptographic fingerprint of your phone number	It cannot be turned back into your number. It is what makes a ban stick — without it, an account banned for harming someone could be deleted and immediately recreated on the same number.
Your consent records	These are the proof that we were allowed to process your data in the first place, which we are required to be able to show. After deletion they point to an identifier that carries no personal information. Destroying them would destroy the evidence that we acted lawfully.
Safety reports and moderation cases	Evidence. If someone has reported you, or you have reported someone, leaving must not erase the case. A person under investigation cannot close it by deleting their account.
Payment and subscription records	Financial records carry their own statutory retention periods under Indian law, separate from data-protection rules.
The empty shell of messages you sent	The words are removed. The row stays so that the other person's side of the conversation does not develop holes where your replies were.

How long it takes

Deletion begins immediately: your profile stops being visible to anyone else as soon as you confirm. The erasure itself runs as a scheduled job rather than instantly, so that it is batched and can be checked — expect it to complete within N days.

Chat media

Photographs and files sent inside conversations are deleted automatically 30 days after they are sent, whether or not you delete your account.

Changed your mind?

Deletion is permanent. There is no undo and no recovery window — if you sign up again on the same number you will start with an empty profile.
